Beaver Contracting Branding Re-Design
I was commissioned by Luke Beaver, owner of Beaver Contracting LLC. and Beaver Plumbing LLC. to redesign his branding, including a logo redesign, a custom illustration, a brand new website, and large vinyl decals for his work vehicles. Luke wanted a vintage hand-lettered look for his company, conveying trust, as welling as keeping the playful side of his beaver illustration.

NEW LOGO
Custom Illustration
Beaver contracting’s old logo consisted of a beaver illustration inside of a protractor (as you can see up above), and Luke wanted to make sure he kept that component similar when moving to a new logo. He graciously allowed me to use my own drawing style to come up with a vintage etched style illustration, both for his Contracting company, which is the beaver holding a hammer, and for his plumbing company, which is the beaver holding a monkey wrench. This took roughly 5 hours to illustrate and vectorize.
Typography & Brand Marks
I used a combination of vintage script and pointy serif typography to give the logo design that sense of timelessness and trustworthiness. As these brand marks were going to be on large vehicles and elements like brochures and flyers, I wanted to be sure the information would be clear, but also catch some attention.
Vinyl Vehicle Decals
Beaver Contracting and Beaver Plumbing use large work trucks and trailers to serve clients and companies around the Raleigh, Durham, and Triangle area. We branded these vehicles using large vinyl, all weather decals that would be sure to catch some attention on the road.
All of the illustrations and lettering work was first vectorized using Adobe Illustrator, and then I personally worked with a professional local printing agency to size out and create these large vinyl decals. For the trailer, the decal was roughly 7 feet long by 4.5 feet high, and for the white truck, the decals came in multiple pieces of about 3 feet long by around 2.5 feet high.
The application of vinyl decals like this takes many hours of both cleaning the area and applying the vinyl using special tools and equipment (as well as making sure the weather is appropriate and no bubbling takes place). For this project, because the beaver was heavily illustrated with lots of detail, the beaver came as one piece on black vinyl (which matched both the black trailer and the white truck).
For the phone number and email text, those each came as one piece of vinyl separate from the others and are applied separately, so alignment also plays a key part in the application process.
Website Design
Luke also needed a website re-design with more updated pictures of his work, as well as having a way for potential clients to set up a consultation meeting with him. He also wanted to provide a definition for all of the services that he offers so that clients can understand exactly what they would be hiring him to do. We settled on a simple but elegant website design showcasing Luke’s work, an about page sharing his story, and a work gallery that displays a variety of projects he has completed for both residential and commercial properties.
We also set up a consultation form for potential clients to meet with Luke via phone or in person, as opposed to just having someone send him an email and wait for a response. This way, Luke would get as much detail as possible up front before ever having a meeting, and this would give him information to create pricing, timelines, and other things necessary for a project. So the website re-design served as a way to save him time as well as showcase his beautiful work.
Brochure Design
Beaver Contracting also wanted a brief, four page brochure with examples of work, a list of services, and appropriate contact information for potentials to get in touch with Luke. Using the same elements plus a few more vintage style framing components, we completed a brochure for Beaver Contracting on slick magazine grade paper, staple-bound, and easily sent out as part of a mailer, or handed to a potential client on the fly.
Results
It was a pleasure working with Luke to complete his branding re-design. It was both a challenge and a breeze due to his trust in me to create something custom to his own style and work. Since the rebranding, he has received more calls than ever due to the vinyl decals on his work trucks, and he frequently receives consultation requests via his new website. I don’t have specific percents or data in terms of “lead-gen” or anything like that, but I know Luke is pleased, and so are his customers.
